A beautiful console table in finely carved and gilded oak.

The table has four legs in a double C shape, shaped like gun dogs, adorned with rocaille shells and terminating in interior scrolls.

The upper stretcher is centered with an asymmetrical rocaille motif, while the lower stretcher is decorated with a large, finely carved, openwork acanthus leaf framed by two bird wings.

The side rails are molded, shaped, openwork, and terminate in half-shells adorned with small flowers.

The original, beautiful double-molded top is made of Aleppo breccia marble.

The oak carving and engraving on the gesso are of exceptional quality.

In excellent condition, with original gilding; minor restorations consistent with age.

Parisian work, Louis XV period, circa 1750.

Our opinion:

The presence of solid oak, the purity of the design, the fluidity of the lines, and the excellence of the carving and engraving suggest a Parisian workshop close to the court artisans.

The exuberant foliage, the asymmetrical rocaille motif, and the subtly concealed wings of birds within the decoration place this console table around 1750, that is, at the stylistic height of Louis XV's reign.

The preservation of the original gilding allows for a precise examination of the engraving in the gesso and the work of the gilder who perfected this exquisitely detailed sculpture.

All of these elements connect us to the great Parisian sculptors' workshops that worked from designs inspired by the renowned ornamentalist Nicolas Pineau.
